Advent 2024 Devotion: December 4

Scripture: Exodus 12:5
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.

Devotion: The Passover foreshadows Christ's sacrifice on the cross. In fact, the entirety of the sacrificial system established in the Old Testament foreshadows the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus to reveal God's holiness and His demand of justice for sin. During Passover, the Israelites sacrificed a lamb without blemish, and its blood marked their doorposts, protecting them from death. Similarly, Christ, the "Lamb of God" (John 1:29), was a perfect and spotless sacrifice whose blood atones for the sin of mankind, offering freedom from spiritual death. Christ's death occurred during the Passover, highlighting the fulfillment of this ancient promises in His sacrifice.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus as the perfect sacrifice. Help us to live in gratitude for His atoning work and to walk in obedience to You. Amen.
