Advent 2024 Devotion: December 16

Scripture: Luke 2:1-7
1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. 4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. 6 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a [b]manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Devotion: When Jesus, the Son of God, stepped out of eternity and put on flesh, He did so quietly and modestly. Born in a stable and laid in a manger, He began His earthly life in the most modest of places, a far cry from the palaces of earthly kings.  His humble birth in Bethlehem illustrates God's plan of redemption through humility and servitude. He was laid in a manger because there was no room in the inn.
Are you making room for Jesus in your busy lives?
Are you welcoming Him into your home
The birth of Jesus represents the arrival of the greatest gift humanity has ever received: the gift of salvation. As you exchange gifts and celebrate with loved ones, do not lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas – God's love manifested in the gift of His Son.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to live with humility. May we always make room for Jesus in our hearts and homes, and may the true meaning of Christmas fill us with gratitude, joy, and peace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
