Advent 2024 Devotion: December 17

Scripture: Luke 2:15-18
15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

Devotion: This passage transports us to that night of wonder and awe when the first announcement of Jesus' birth was made, not to kings, rulers, or nobility but to humble shepherds. This passage highlights the shepherds immediate and unhestiating response to the the heavenly message. They recognized the significance of what had been revealed to them and acted swiftly. We too are called to respond promptly and eagerly to God's word.
However, after witnessing Jesus, the shepherds didn't keep the news to themselves. They spread the amazing news about the birth of Jesus. Their hearts were so full of joy and amazement that they had to share it with others.  All who heard the shepherds' story were amazed. The shepherds' simple yet powerful testimony had a profound impact on those who heard it.

Would be so bold this season to share your faith and the ways in which Jesus has touched your lives. He is the reason for the Season!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. We desire to be swift in our response to Your messages and eager to share the good news. Fill our hearts with the same joy and amazement that the shepherds felt. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
