One Week Fast: Day 4
The theme for today's fast is physical healing. In the last phrase of Exodus 15:26, God says, ". . . I am the Lord who heals you." He created us and He knows how our bodies work. We refer to Jesus as "the Great Physician" because of all the healing miracles He performed during His earthly ministry. Are you struggling with a physical ailment? The Apostle Peter reminds you to "cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." The Apostle Paul reminds you to "be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God" (Philippians 4:6). Scripture says:
The Apostle Paul had a "thorn in the flesh" and he "implored the Lord three times that it might leave" him (1 Corinthians 12:8). The Lord's response to him was, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness" (1 Corinthians 12:9). You should pray in faith that the Lord will heal you, but if not, you should still pray "Lord, not my will, but your will be done in my life." You may not experience healing in your body, but praying in faith, I know you will experience healing in your soul. "All things work together for good to those who love God"; The Lord is perfecting you to be more like Christ (Romans 8:28-29).
Today,
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:14-16)
In other words, sin could be a source of ailment which is why the order of the themes for our fast this week was deliberate and necessary. Before fasting and praying for physical healing you must have first prayed and fasted to worship God—and have a proper view of His holiness—prayed and fasted to have a heart of obedience to him, and prayed and fasted for spiritual healing. But sin is not the only source of sickness. We live in a fallen world and sin had not only corrupted man but all of creation is under "the bondage of corruption" (Romans 8:21).The Apostle Paul had a "thorn in the flesh" and he "implored the Lord three times that it might leave" him (1 Corinthians 12:8).
Today,
- Pray that the Lord will give healing to your body.
- Pray for the healing of others.
- Pray that no matter what the Lord's answer is, that "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7).
